Project Overview
I illustrated a baking infographic that shows the process of making chocolate chip muffins. Using charts,
fully custom illustrations, and the principle of visual hierarchy, the infographic is simple to understand
and follow for all ages.

This project demonstrates how complex information can be displayed simply through the use of
illustrations, color, and repetition. The infographic works to share 10 ingredients and over 15 instructions
in a visual way.

Research & Planning.
I utilized Google to research baking infographic layouts. I balanced originality with
incorporating simple and trendy layouts. I found that the best layouts were vertical, allowing the viewer to
easily scan it from left to right and up and down, following natural reading gravity.
For the color scheme, I planned to use classic bakery colors like pastel blues, yellows, and pink. For
typography, I drew inspiration from the words on the back of a brownie or cake mix box; words that are simple
and easy to read at a glance.
Charts & Graphics.
Creating charts was simple using Adobe Illustrator's chart tool. A pie chart of preparation and cook time was
the first chart I created. These numbers are included on almost every recipe, so the infographic audience would
expect them to be represent visually. I also created a bar graph showing the different baking times for
different muffins sizes, ranging from mini muffins to jumbo muffins.
To illustrate the small graphics representing ingredient measurements, I hand traced an image from Google
and changed it to fit my needs. For simple shapes, like the butter, I freehanded the illustration without a
reference. I also made use of past projects where I created similar illustrations to save myself time.
At this stage of the project, I realized the colors I had originally chosen were too light to be used as a
background for white text. So, I darkened the background colors until they passed Web Content Accessibility
Guidelines (WCAG) when paired with white text.
Project Results.
All elements of the infographic come together to look excellent and function well. The chosen font is playful,
interesting, and easy to read. The colors are cute and calming. They served as a visual separation of steps in
the baking process and make important information pop out. The poster displays steps simply without losing any
important information, making it perfect for those who don't have baking experience but want to try this recipe out!
